Yvonne Collett is a Volunteer at our BreastScreen Service in Southport, located at the Gold Coast University Hospital. Yvonne has been volunteering since 1997, and is responsible for re-assuring women that come into Breastscreen for their mammograms, supporting them and assisting with changing into gowns, offering companionship and refreshments whilst waiting, packing laundry away and tidying the waiting area, and assisting staff.
Yvonne displays a high standard of care and compassion and enjoys teaching new Volunteers the role at Breastscreen. She has a great rapport with the staff and is held in high esteem amongst her colleagues.
Always going above and beyond to help out at the clinic, Yvonne will often volunteer to assist with any community events and displays. Personally, Yvonne is the carer for her husband in his eighties with Alzheimers Disease who is also visually impaired. She is a devoted, wife, mother and grandmother and every Christmas fills her car with baking and drives to Melbourne to spend the Christmas period with family.
Yvonne is an exceptional and inspiring lady for an 83 year old and without hesitation was nominated by her peers as a Classic Hero.
